Google One Hit Wonder

So Much Fanfare, So Few Hits - cut through the hype, Google's intimidation factor quickly fizzles. An analysis of some two dozen new ventures launched over the past four years shows that Google has yet to establish a single market leader outside its core search business.

Outside of Search Google is a one hit wonder, the numbers are in and they don't look good.... Google Talk, the IM client that was going to gobble-up the competition is languishing in 10th place with just 2% of the Market; can anyone name more then three IM clients?

Whatever became of the Google OS that was going to make Windows Vista irrelevant?

Charlene Li has long called Google a one-trick pony because so much of their business comes from one primary revenue stream – online search ads.

Yes Google Maps are cool and I do use Picasa because it's so simple and about a third of my blogs trafic arrives via Google - thank-you Larry and Sergey!

Here comes acronym week - Search Engine Strategies is in the Valley this week, so get ready for more Google goodness,,,,

You can find Google's SEC filings on the SEC website    Google Announces Second Quarter 2006 Financial Results

Where is the innovation? Can’t Google do better then trying to copy Cragslist, PayPal and ebay?

I see Google as the keeper of the flame lit by Netscape with all the hopes and dreams of the Silicon Valley faithful in the ultimate world wide high-tech competition; the Wall Street scoreboard has them leading, but for how long?.

Office Live Developers

Developer Platform Resources

Calling all developers… As promised, Office Live has started releasing materials for Solution Developers in concert with the Worldwide Partner Conference in Boston last week.  Check it out:

  • Developer Center on MSDN – Keep up on the news with the Office Live platform; get links to technical resources and much more.
  • Developer Guide Partner “preview”  – Microsoft partners can download a copy of the developer guide preview and a business opportunity white paper.  If you are not a Microsoft partner, go here to sign up.  It’s easy.
  • What is Office Live? (video interview) – The folks from Channel 9 stopped by the office to talk to Brian, Tara and David about the developer platform.  Watch this for a good introduction to the  Office Live Solution Developer platform.

We haven’t been pushing for developers to adopt our current v1.0 Beta.  That’s because it was built on Windows SharePoint Services v2.  Since we are moving to WSS v3 in our upcoming release, it made the most sense to have developers start off with that.  So, if you are interested in becoming an Office Live Solution Developer, start ramping up on WSS v3.  Here is a link to their SDK for Beta 2.  And check out the other great resources above.
