Blu-Ray Meanies

Everybody keeps asking me; what did you see and learn at CES?

The first thing I learned was that DVD player sales peaked in 2003, instinctually the American consumer knows that it's time for a new format.

The next thing I learned was that Dell and Apple have joined the Blu-Ray Meanies.

Sony, you remember Sony they used to make great hand-held devices for listing to music. Then they bought-up a few Record companies and Movie Studios and now their mission is to protect those properties. So they developed the Blu-Ray DVD format and soon if we want to see any of their Movies or listen to their songs we will need to buy one of their Blu-Ray DVD players.

How about all the Movies I already own? How about all the CD's I got, do I really want to back them up using Sony's Java DRM?

HD-DVD looks like a much better choice for the rest of us who need to back-up stuff that no longer fits on our CD burner. Toshiba and Microsoft are the big players behind HD-DVD, but in the end the winning format will be the one that we buy.

Who won the Beta-Max vs VHS war? It was the DVD!

Who will win the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD war? Streaming!
