VSTS client SKU's going RC and TFS Beta 3

Rick LaPlante blogs about the VSTS client SKU's going RC and TFS Beta 3:

This Release Candidate already includes the client/role based portions of the new Visual Studio 2005 Team System, including Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite.  We are also readying the availability of Beta 3 of Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, the server component of Visual Studio 2005 Team System.  Currently I think we're about 14 days out on those bits so we're very close.

Since yesterday all PDC attendees were able to pick up the Release Candidate of Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite, the September CTP of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and the PDC05 CTP of Windows Server Codename "Longhorn".

Migrating to Team Foundation Server

I recently received a number of questions of customers about migrating Rational ClearQuest workitems or Visual SourceSafe source files to Team Foundation Server. The great news is that Microsoft will make two tools available to help you with your migration efforts.

A walkthrough to migrate your your ClearQuest work items to Team Foundation work item tracking by using the conversion utility is available on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181248(en-us,vs.80).aspx.

The Visual SourceSafe to Team Foundation migration walkthrough can be found on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181246(en-us,vs.80).aspx. The Team Foundation Visual SourceSafe converter tool transfers files, folders, version history, and user information from a Visual SourceSafe (VSS) database to a Team Foundation source control server.

Let me know if you are interested in testing these tools out. We even have some more material avaliable on the converters!
