Can Ajax Support Make or Break a Browser?

Internet Explorer 7

Just in case you didn't catch it somewhere else the official version if Internet Explorer 7 is now available. I have been using the latest release candidate for a about a month and am really impressed with the updates to the user interface. I haven't seen any of the new security alerts yet in practice... I guess I've just been avoiding all the hacker-sites lately :)

FireFox 2 RC

This is a little older news, but FireFox 2 Release Candidate 2 is also available. Equipped with a much more refined UI, FireFox is still the browser to beat though in my opinion. You still get all the support for extensibility through it's add-in model, but my favorite new feature is the built-in spell check while you are typing in a multi-line text box!

Update: FireFox 2 is on Release Candidate 3 now... thanks Dmitry!

Scoble Says Ajax May Make or Break a Browser

In Robert Scoble's informal test of speed and responsiveness it seems IE has some catching up to do in handling intense Ajax calls.

The Bottom Line

For me I am defaulting to FireFox 2 for almost all my web browsing. Visual Studio still defaults to IE for debugging sessions, which is fine, so this way I really get a chance to use both browsers each day.

What About You

What do you think? What's been working for you? Are any of you waiting to upgrade?
